I have been interested in alternative vehicles for many years. I helped build methane digesters in the mid 70s, they worked great but the drawback was they were batch fed. I prefer continuous fed digesters.

I am thinking about building a 125 mpg car at this time and possibly a three wheeled all electric. The first electrics were built over 100 years ago, Diesel built his engines to run on peanut oil.

Actually the green movement is not new just reinvented. The technology is here and has been for a long time, the components are all available from existing vehicles. The main obstacle is our brains and conditioning to fail.

Costs can be overcome by planning and rearranging priorities. The first step is to belive you can do it. The secret of building a vehicle which can get 125 mpg or more is weight.

I am starting by loosing weight myself, but keeping in mind that I need to build a vehicle which weighs no more than 750 pounds complete.

To do this a fiberglass-composite body is a must, the frame and support members must be aluminum were possible, the power plant will be a three cylinder diesel which has the best power per pound available.

A light weight three speed tranny and vw clutch assembly most likely.

This will be a two seat commuter with a compartment for four bags of groceries. I am planning to spend no more than $8k on it but am well aware most projects run 20% higher. My thoughts tonight. Zorba

I have no faith in this present administration to fix this deep depression we are in.

Obama helped the banks and wall street who caused this bull, and then helped the auto makers who were building big vehicles nobody wanted to buy. The late, great middle class has drastically shrunk, we have a 14 trillion buck debt helping these asses and now there is a big tax increase coming January 1st.
The remains of the middle class and the poor will get hit the hardest. The minimum tax bracket will be 40%, plus hundreds of new taxes will be imposed.

Then there is the 500 billion dollars being stripped away from Medicare, Hospitals and Doctors, and mandatory health insurance imposed on almost everyone or pay a fine?

We are going to get less care at higher costs, and more businesses will go bankrupt or leave the country. I hope and pray Obama looses the next election.
